Sejarah E-mail Pertama

E-mail sudah bukan barang aneh di jaman modern ini. Bahkan kata ini sekali pun sudah ada padanan katanya dalam bahasa Indonesia menjadi pos elektronik atau surat elektronik, tapi tetap digunakan kata aslinya.

E-mail berkembang seiring perkembangan internet. Teknologi inilah yang membuat kantor pos kekurangan order. Dan orang yang bertanggung jawab atas semua itu adalah Ray Tomlinson.

Sejarah E-mail

Tahun 1971 adalah tahun bersejarah dalam perkembangan dunia internet, karena pada tahun itu e-mail pertama dikirim. Uniknya pengiriman e-mail pertama itu dilakukan oleh dua komputer yang berdampingan.Samuel B Morse mengetikkan kata ‘Sesungguhnya hebat apa yang telah Tuhan tulis!’ pada Mei 1844 saat menciptakan mesin telegraf.

Sementara Alexander Graham Bell sebagai sang pionir telepon memiliki pesan yang sangat legendaris pada Maret 1876 yaitu, ‘Tuan Watson, kemarilah. Saya ada perlu dengan Anda!’ pada asistennya. Lalu apa yang dikirimkan Ray Tomlinson pada e-mail pertamanya?

Kata pertama yang tertulis dalam e-mail pertama itu adalah ‘QWERTYUIOP’ yang tidak lain adalah baris pertama tuts alfabet pada papan ketik. Namun, sebenarnya Tomlinson sendiri tidak terlalu ingat apakah itu benar kata pertamanya atau bukan.

Penggunaan tanda @ tidak melalui proses panjang, melainkan hanya pemikiran sekira setengah menit. @ sendiri dibaca ‘at’ yang merupakan preposisi dalam bahasa Inggris untuk menunjukkan tempat (terkadang waktu juga).

Profil Ray Tomlinson

Tomlinson lahir di Amsterdam, New York, tapi kemudian keluarganya pindah ke sebuah desa kecil bernama Vail Mils. Dia bersekolah di Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute di Troy, New York. Dia berpartisipasi dalam program co-op dengan IBM. Pada 1963 dia lulus dari institut tersebut dengan gelar sarjana dalam bidang teknik listrik.

Setelah lulus, dia melanjutkan pendidikan ke Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Di sana dia mengembangkan synthesizer analog-digital hibrida untuk penelitian tesisnya. Kemudian pada 1965 dia lulus dengan gelar master teknik elektro.

Tahun 1967 dia bergabung dengan perusahaan teknologi Bolt, Beranek dan Newman yang sekarang bernama BBN Technologies. Di sini dia membantu mengembangkan sistem operasi TENEX untuk ARPANET. ARPANET adalah sebuah divisi pengembangan internet dari departemen pertahanan Amerika Serikat.

Di sinilah dia menulis program untuk mentransfer file yang diberi nama CPYNET. Kemudian, dia juga diminta membuat program SNDMSG (send message). Terpikir olehnya untuk menggabungkan dua program tersebut dan hasilnya e-mail pertama.

Lucunya, sewaktu dia menunjukkan e-mail pertama itu pada rekan kerjanya, justru ia disuruh menyembunyikannya, “Ini bukan yang seharusnya kita kerjakan!” ujar Jerry Burchfiel, rekan sekerjanya itu. Tapi apa daya, teknologi ini merupakan teknologi pengiriman pesan paling murah saat ini. Jutaan orang mengirimkan e-mail setiap harinya.

Walaupun berpredikat sebagai penemu e-mail, tapi namanya tidak sepopuler Morse atau Bell. Mungkin karena teknologi internet berkembang sangat cepat sehingga yang lama mudah terlupakan. 

Tapi hasil kerjanya juga mendapatkan penghargaan dari berbagai pihak seperti George R. Stibitz Computer Pioneer Award dari American Computer Museum pada tahun 2000, Webby Award dari International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences untuk kategori Pencapaian Seumur hidup. 

Tahun 2001 dia dilantik sebagai Rensselaer Alumni Hall of Fame. Kemudian, pada 2002 Majalah Discover memberikannya penghargaan innovation Award. Pada 2004 dia menerima IEEE Internet Award bersama Dave Crocker. Dan pada 2009 dia bersama Martin Cooper menerima Prince of Asturias award untuk kategori Penelitian sains dan teknologi.

Weekly Oricon Chart: Albums/Singles/Music-DVDs

Popular group, Arashi released their 36th single, "Meikyu Love Song" last week and it has topped the singles chart, becoming their 25th consecutive no.1 single since "PIKA★★NCHI DOUBLE" in February 2004. It is also their 32nd no.1 single, placing them in the third place for having the most number one singles after B'z (with 45) and Hamasaki Ayumi (with 37). The title song is used as the theme song to the Fuji TV drama, "Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de" starring Arashi member, Sakurai Sho.

In the albums chart, singer-songwriter, YUI achieved her 5th consecutive no.1 album with her 5th studio album, "HOW CRAZY YOUR LOVE", since her second full album, "CAN'T BUY MY LOVE" (released in April 2007). This album includes tracks like the newly-released "Green a.live", and also "Lock On", the theme song to TBS midnight drama, "Kaito Royale" starring Matsuzaka Tori and Oomasa Aya, with a total of 13 songs.

AKB48's Yuko to cosplay as Serah on Launch Event

Because people have "liked" the ffxiii-2 "test-play" promotional site over 50,000 times on facebook Yuko will be dressing up as Serah on the launch event. If 70k people "like" the site Yuko will wear a different outfit (Lightning????). There's a third option as well, but Square Enix hasn't said how many "likes" it will take to reach that point.

AKB48's Yuko designs for Final Fantasy XIII-2

Only one of these will make it into the game, released at some point as download content. Square Enix will be staging fan voting at the game's Judge13 campaign site to determine the winner.

The Moogles shown in the drawings that Yuko are holding are just for show. The actual DLC will include a costume just for Serah, and not for your Moogle.

Matsumoto Jun, Eita & Oizumi Yo to star in next Getsu 9 drama

Earlier today, Fuji TV revealed the first details about their Monday-9pm (‘Getsu 9′) drama for the winter season that will begin airing in January.

This season we get to enjoy a great female cast in a drama all about love and problems of women with “Watashi ga Renai Dekinai Ryuu“. Next season we can look forward to a real action drama called “Lucky Seven“, starring Arashi’s Matsumoto Jun, Eita, and Oizumi Yo as the members of a detective agency.

The story focuses on the seven members, three men and four women, that operate a small detective agency in Kitashinagawa, Tokyo. Teamwork is definitely going to be a strong theme of the drama, but it will be the original and thrilling cases that are going to keep the viewers at the edge of their seats.

Moreover, the viewers can look forward to some great action scenes, as Fuji TV was able to have “GANTZ” director Sato Shinsuke on board for the production. Aside from other activities, he will be in charge of all the action scenes. It’s said that it’s going to be the most thrilling drama Fuji TV has ever aired in their Monday time slot. Thus far, this time slot has been known more for its intense love stories rather than thrilling action dramas.

Matsumoto is going to portray the newest addition to the team, a real novice detective, who is completely absorbed in everything the job has to offer. Meanwhile, Eita is going to slip into the role of a really cool and calm guy, who regularly ends up in a confrontation with the new member due to their opposite personalities. Oizumi, as the senior of the two, will act as the self-proclaimed “middle man” and try to get them back on the same page whenever it’s necessary. Aside from that, he actually turns out to be quite a puzzling guy himself.

For Matsumoto, it has been a year and a half since his last Monday starring role in the drama, “Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku“. He stated with confidence, “I think it’s going to become an intense drama, featuring seven completely different individuals. It will keep you excited and also make you laugh. I’m already all excited to have some great time with this team.”

Eita commented, “It looks like there are going to be a lot of action scenes together with Matsumoto. I want to sync with him to the best of my abilities.”

Oizumi seems to be quite eager as well, but he still is calm enough to joke around. He said, “The tension is incredible. It’s a getsu 9 drama after all! Please look forward to the love-triangle between Matsumoto, Eita, and me. (laughs)”

Lastly, Matsumoto added, “We want to show some great teamwork that will make all viewers want to join this team!”

The female members of the team have yet to be revealed.

Twitter Japan’s official blog revealed some statistics about its users and hashtags for the three-month period between July and September of this year, including information about which celebrities gained the most followers during that time.

Among the celebrities, actor Tanabe Seiichi had the largest increase in followers. With his unique illustrations and tweets, his account has greatly grown in popularity and is currently at almost 338,000 followers at the time of this writing.

Within the top 10, there are three AKB48 members: Shinoda Mariko at #2, Kojima Haruna at #6, and Itano Tomomi at #10.

Takahashi Ai receives ‘Best Shoe Wearer Award’

On November 10th, former Morning Musume leader Takahashi Ai attended an awards ceremony for ‘The 4th Best Shoe Wearer Awards‘ where she was awarded the ‘Best Shoe Wearer Award’.

Takahashi expressed her joy saying, “I never dreamed of receiving such a wonderful award after graduating from Morning Musume. I love fashion, and I love to collect shoes, so I am very happy.”

Along with the award, Takahashi received two pairs of shoes that were order made to match her taste. She smiled as she said, “Wow, it’s cute,” and continued “It’s so cute that I honestly expressed my happiness. I am very happy. I want to wear it already.”

Sponsored by ‘Kutsu no Megumi Matsuri Committee’, the ‘Best Shoe Wearer Awards’ aims to stimulate leather related industries by awarding the person who suits shoes the most. Previous winners of this award include Ishida Junichi (2008, 2009), Kanda Uno (2009), Yashiro Hideki (2010), and Tamaru Maki (2010).

Additionally, Ichikawa Kamejiro received the award in the men’s category and Kuraishi Isao received the award in the senior category.

During a press conference after the ceremony, Takahashi was questioned about relationships and marriage. She answered, “Since I graduated, I’ll probably get married if I meet somebody. I think my desire for marriage come will after I find a partner.” In response, Kuraishi blurted, “I want you have an early marriage, have children, and contribute to Japan.”

Arashi ranked 3rd at Global Track Chart

Arashi ranked 3rd at the Global Track Chart with the selling record of 310.000 copies with their new single Meikyuu Love Song (I already posted the lyrics). I have no idea why the can got 310.000 copies, since if I remember correctly Oricon Chart recorded Arashi's Meikyuu selling with 530.469 copies in one week. But still, my boys are really great, too bad I can't get my own copy. I already Pre-Ordered it before, but it got through a lot of things, and here it is now, I get no copy of Meikyuu Love Song.
Oh, btw, Perfume ranked 2nd in Oricon Chart with 75.688 in one week with their new single, Spice. Yay! Perfume <3
